Tamsin Birch is a Soprano scholar who has recently graduated from the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under Wilma MacDougall and Linda Ormiston OBE. She is also a 2023 Serena Fenwick Young Artist at British Youth Opera. Before her time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland she completed her Master of Arts Degree at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was a scholar studying under Nuccia Focile and Iain Ledingham.
She has recently performed a variety of fully staged roles. Gilda (Rigoletto) and Serpina (La Serva Padrona) for the Camerata de bardi van Nederland in the Netherlands in June 2022. Tina (Flight) and Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare) for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) for St Paul’s Opera, and Poppea (Agrippina) and Merab (Saul) for the Dartington Summer Festival.
Since beginning her studies she has played several roles in Opera Scenes. Roles have included Agnés (Written on Skin – Benjamin), Vixen (Cunning Little Vixen – Janáçek), Nedda (Pagliacci - Leoncavallo), Ilia (Idomeneo - Mozart), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare - Handel), Armida (Rinaldo - Handel), Mimi (La Boheme - Puccini) and Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream - Britten).
She was a finalist for the Mozart Opera Competition at the Rossi Fest in Belgrade and a finalist at the Ye Cronies Opera Prize at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Other projects include the Song Studio concert series in 2020, and a keen member of the Rosán Duo for Live Music Now Scotland.
Tamsin is fortunate enough to have been supported by the Violet M Wallace Award at the Royal Academy of Music, Dartington Hall Trust, the Brian Jamieson Opera Scolarship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Mario Lanza Educational Foundation and the Prain Family.
